Cervical disc replacement shows promising 2-year results

October 23, 2026 by Alec Frias

By: Becker Spine Review – Sophie Eydis

Patients who received Synergy Spine Solutions’ Synergy Disc cervical disc replacement experienced sustained improvements in neck pain and disability through two years, according to results from an international study presented at the North American Spine Society’s 2026 annual meeting in San Antonio.

The ongoing PERFORM study evaluated 120 patients across five sites in the United Kingdom, European Union and Australia. All patients underwent single-level cervical disc replacement, and 30% also underwent anterior cervical discectomy and fusion during the same surgery, according to an Oct. 20 news release.

Mean Neck Disability Index scores fell from 43.4 before surgery to 7.8 at two years and measured 10.8 at three years. Mean neck pain scores decreased from 5.8 before surgery to 0.8 at two years.

No device-related adverse events, explants or supplemental fixation were reported during follow-up. Kaplan–Meier analysis estimated 100% device survival at up to four years. Patient-reported outcomes were available for 78% of eligible patients at one and two years and 63% at three years.

Separately, the company presented two-year results from its U.S. investigational device exemption trial, reporting an 87.1% composite clinical success rate for the Synergy Disc compared with 56.6% for historical fusion controls.ynergy Disc®, features a built-in 6-degree lordotic core designed to not only preserve motion but also improve sagittal alignment.
