Extension of strategic partnerships
In September we announced an extension to our partnership with international growth specialists Ortho Consulting Group (OCG) to lead our growth across the Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) region.
The additional resource – in addition to the current sales leadership, marketing, quality and regulatory and logistical support already provided by OCG – further strengthened our commitment to the EMEA region.
Josh Butters, Synergy Spine Solutions CEO, said: “We believe the Synergy Disc® advances the standard of care for treating cervical degenerative disc disease and we look forward to bringing this next generation technology to more markets and accelerating the commercial success we have already delivered. To do this requires not only a great technology, but also a great team, and we are looking forward to advancing our great relationship with OCG and our distribution partners.”
Matt Woods, OCG Founder, said: “The team at OCG are delighted to extend our partnership and responsibility with Synergy, which further supports our commitment to bring innovative, high-quality technologies that meet and exceed the needs of healthcare professionals. We are excited to continue to deliver growth, strategy and success across the EMEA region with full responsibility for growing Synergy’s presence in these markets.”
Sales and marketing
In October we were pleased to announce our new distributor partnership with CIP Insumos Medicos in Argentina.
Led by Commercial Director Fábian Cámera, the team at CIP Insumos Medicos work closely with our Latin America commercialisation partner Healthcare International Partners to supply the Synergy Disc within Argentina.
Fábian Cámera said: “It is very exciting for CIP its strategic alliance with Synergy Spine Solutions and HIP, to be able to expand in the Argentine market with the high-tech cervical disc that can provide more health solutions in spine surgeries.”
Synergy Spine Solutions distribution partners Orthos Medical (Ireland) and Nexon Medical AG (Switzerland) successfully completed the first Synergy Disc replacement surgeries in their countries in 2022.
Dr. Deb Roy, spinal neurosurgeon at the Poynton Spine Care Institute in Dublin, said: “I used the Synergy Cervical Disc which was very easy to implant, retained cervical motion and alignment, and was as simple to implant as an ACDF cage. Everything worked very well.”
In order to support colleagues in local markets we delivered an enhanced direct marketing presence at key international congresses and conferences, ultimately helping to drive growth and success.
This included our inaugural Wine & Spine event at the Museum Storico Alfa Romeo in Milan during Eurospine.
The museum’s collection of historic and iconic cars was a perfect backdrop for our speakers on an evening of engaging medical education on advances in the standard of care for cervical artificial disc replacement devices.
The Synergy team were also on the ground at events including the Cervical Spine Research Society Europe (CSRS) annual meeting, AAOS, NSpine, DKOU and the German Spine Congress (DWG) among others, reinforcing our focus on bringing the Synergy Disc technology to more markets and accelerating the commercial success we have already delivered.
One of the key factors to this success was our strong support for local exhibitions, congresses and conferences, which allowed us to connect with customers and partners in a meaningful way and which provided valuable networking and learning opportunities.
Among these events were the NeuroSpine meeting in Bern, BASS (British Association of Spine Surgeons) in Belfast, the Brussels International Spine Symposium and FIME 2022 in Miami.
As a result, we have seen a strong increase in business and positive feedback from those who participated in these events. We are proud of the impact we were able to make and look forward to continuing to support our partners’ local exhibitions, congresses and conferences in the coming year.
We also continued to extend our footprint in Australia and New Zealand through our partnership with LifeHealthcare to address unmet clinical needs across the region.
This included a series of advanced training workshops delivered at key locations across Australia, strengthening our collaboration and enthusiasm for advancing cervical disc arthroplasty worldwide.
Clinical
Enrolment continued in 2022 for the Synergy Disc 1-Level IDE trial, a multi-center, prospective, non-randomized, historically controlled study, launched in the US in February and now active at more than 25 sites across the country.
The study, whose aim is to demonstrate that the Synergy Disc is at least as safe and effective as conventional anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) to treat cervical degenerative disc disease (DDD) in subjects who are symptomatic at only one level from C3 to C7 that are unresponsive to conservative management, has now enrolled it’s 150th patient.
Led by Jane Jacob, Vice President, Research and Clinical Affairs at Synergy Spine Solutions, the study involves some of the USA’s leading spine surgeon thought leaders and arthroplasty experts.
Additional data is being collected in in Australia, the EU and the UK. These studies will support both MDR and CE Mark regulatory requirements moving forward for the Synergy Disc.
Looking ahead to 2023
As we kick off 2023 it’s clear that our focus on continued growth and international expansion will be key to our business success. By focusing on these pillars, we will be well-positioned to take advantage of new opportunities and continue driving our business forward. We are confident that 2023 will be a year of continued success and look forward to all that it has in store.
